The proposal looked excellent to Farhan’s father. The family was known, the young man was doing well professionally and everyone who was asked spoke positively. His daughter still said she did not want to continue.
His first reaction was frustration. She could not give him one dramatic reason. She simply said she did not feel comfortable enough to move forward.
What this perspective asks of us
Later he realised that he had spent weeks checking whether the other family was suitable, but very little time asking whether his daughter felt at ease with the match. Due diligence had answered his questions, not hers.
A parent may sometimes believe a child is making a mistake. Advice is part of parenting. But marriage needs willingness that cannot be manufactured through evidence, reputation or persuasion. Sometimes the safest decision is to accept a clear no even when you would personally have said yes.
