Privacy Is Not a Feature in Matrimonial Search — It Is a Responsibility

A matrimonial profile can contain some of the most personal information a family places online.

Why matrimonial privacy is different

  • Photographs.

  • Age.

  • Education.

  • Employment.

  • Family information.

  • Marriage preferences.

  • Location.

Ask who needs access—and when

“Can we technically display this information?”

The better question is:

“Who genuinely needs to see it, at what stage, and for what purpose?”

Privacy by default

A candidate's phone number should not automatically be visible. Exact residential information should not be public. Sensitive photographs should not be downloadable simply because someone created an account.

Progressive disclosure

For example, an initial profile may contain enough information to assess basic compatibility. Additional information may become visible after an interest is reciprocated. Direct contact may come later still, when both families and candidates are comfortable progressing. This is not unnecessary friction. It is responsible disclosure.

Technology reduces risk; it cannot erase it

Someone can photograph a screen with another device. A determined person may attempt to copy information. But platforms can make misuse more difficult and more accountable through access controls, watermarking, audit trails, rate limits, verification, reporting systems, and strong enforcement.

Members share responsibility

Receiving access to a matrimonial profile does not make that profile public property. Photographs should not be circulated in WhatsApp groups. Profiles should not be forwarded to unrelated people. Personal information should not become social gossip.

Dignity is the standard

Privacy therefore is not merely a technical policy at Misaq. It is part of the culture we hope to build.
