We Prepare for the Wedding for Months and Sometimes for Marriage for Days

For three months, almost every evening in the house was about the wedding. Clothes, menus, guest lists, photography, invitations and decorations filled the family WhatsApp groups. The bride and groom were both exhausted before the marriage had even begun.

Yet the two had spent very little time discussing where they would live, how work schedules would fit together, what each expected from family life, or how money would be managed.

Looking beyond convention

Celebration matters. Weddings are joyful family events and memories matter too. The problem is not having a beautiful wedding. The problem is allowing the event to consume all the energy that should also go into preparing for married life.

Perhaps every wedding checklist should have another checklist beside it: conversations completed, expectations discussed, boundaries understood and practical plans agreed. The event lasts a few days. The marriage deserves at least as much preparation.
