Early matrimonial conversations are usually polite. Everyone is careful, well dressed and trying to make a good impression. That is natural, but it can hide how two people handle discomfort.
Before a serious commitment, discuss at least one topic where you may not fully agree. It could be living arrangements, career after marriage, financial support for parents, children, relocation or family boundaries.
Making room for an honest conversation
The purpose is not to create a test or provoke an argument. It is to see whether both people can listen, ask follow-up questions, explain their position and leave the conversation with respect intact.
Compatibility is not proven by agreeing on every subject. Sometimes it is better demonstrated by how two people manage a real difference.
